Question: How big of a crack in my windshield before I need to replace

Is there a rule of thumb for this?

Make sure you've had them repaired/stopped with glue. Small cracks probably cost around 40 to repair, and larger ones up to a 100. You can also do it yourself with E8000 glue.

Sometimes insurance companies will cover the cost of replacement, if they do, definitely get it replaced (States such as Massachusetts require insurance companies to cover it, and there it is probably also illegal to drive with a cracked windshield. It's a good idea to check for laws in your area pertaining windshield cracks).

And finally to answer your question, I'd say if it's over 3 inches get it replaced.
