Question: is there a solution to keeping small pebbles from becoming lodged betwen the backing plate and rotor

on two occasions a small pebble has become lodged between the front passenger side brake rotor and backing plate. Very annoying sound.

I have to be concerned if any damage has happened to the rotor?
Snow tires and winter wheels have been on the vehicle for each instance.

Are there any ideas how to prevent pebbles becoming lodged.
On an older Ford Explorer when this happened a pebble would work its way out. Not so on the Outback.

Thanks for any insight.
