Question: is there a spring that holds the gas pedal up in a 71beetle?

the gas pedal in my 71beetle hits the floor&won't go back up. the accelerator cable is intact-is there a spring that holds up the pedal that might be broken?

hi, just seen your problem and i think i can help. i have a 63 beetle that has run in nairobi kenya for 46 yrs now.
your problem is at the point the cable attaches to the engine, thats on the carburator,
right above that point, theres a small spring that is hooked onto some sort of hook. check if this spring is broken or just unhooked or overstretched, then all you need to do is just buy a carburetor return spring and if none is available, remember to carry the old broken one as a reference!
that should do it, but if you have more trouble, contact me on my email, waruisa@gmail.com.
