Question: VW approved mechanic & VW parts for brake repair?
I'm a first time German car owner, and my Passat's breaks are making "replace me" noises. I've put it off for a while due to illness, so they may need roters/discs(?) repaired/replaced(?) too. Also don't know if it's front, rear, or both. Big question is if I go to a mechanic that is ASE certified, and advertises they do foreign & domestic, but doesn't use the official factory parts - which are way more $$ - will I be adequately taking care of my car? Apparently the brakes on this car are electronically sophisticated, but the mechanic I'm considering says there are only two manufacturers of brake parts for all cars, and he has access to identical ones as the ones the car came with. Can anyone give me the low down on this?
